European films did particularly well on the other side of the Mediterranean during the 39th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival, with Leonardo Di Costanzo's The Intruder snagging top prize.
The 2017 edition is set to open on Friday 1 December with Laurent Cantet's The Workshop. The programme boasts 103 titles, of which 21 will be world-premiering and 20 are due to premiere in Italy.
Filmmaker, the festival dedicated to documentary and experimental filmmaking, is back to Milan, from December 1 to 10. Among the guests, Lech Kowalski and French cinema master Alain Cavalier. This year's retrospective pays homage to the genius of Alberto Grifi.
72 Italian films, including brand new titles and classics, composed the program of the 40. Festival du Film Italien of Villerupt. The jury, chaired by Cristina Comencini, bestowed the top prize on Fabio Mollo's There Is a Light.
