Gina Lollobrigida arrives in Los Angeles wearing a turquoise dress with golden marquetries hand-made by herself. An all-round artist, "la Lollo" is on the Walk of Fame to lay the star that will always show her name. The ceremony involved all the participants and also passersby who stopped to take a closer look to the icon of Italian and international cinema. In her speech, in fluent English, the actress thanked all those who contributed to the appointment of Hollywood's most prestigious star.
Recently turned 91, the actress stated: "I am very moved, I didn't expect to come back to Hollywood after so many years and find again all this love. To be loved by audiences all over the world has always been something that deeply moved me, and it still moves me."
Italian institutions wished to celebrate Lollobrigida as well. Roberto Stabile, coordinator of the Ice Audiovisual Desk, read a speech on behalf of Dario Franceschini, Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities: "From today, Gina Lollobrigida's star shines on the Walk of Fame and, alongside the names of Ennio Morricone, Sophia Loren, Bernardo Bertolucci, Rodolfo Valentino, and Anna Magnani, shapes the firmament of Italian cinema in Hollywood. A great Italian artist, protagonist on the international film scene for many years, Lollobrigida is now receiving a recognition which is very much deserved. Just a few weeks before the Oscar ceremony, Italy is on the forefront again, and this shows how our Country has enriched this important creative industry since its origins with its talents. Gina Lollobrigida is undoubtedly one of those, with her long and glorious career between Italy and Hollywood that finally finds its seal today."
Anica President Francesco Rutelli too wished to send his personal homage: "The recognition bestowed in Hollywood to Gina Lollobrigida is a great joy for cinema, culture, and the whole system of Italian enterprises. It was about time! A whole life dedicated to cinema, together with a deep passion for sculpture, made of Gina Lollobrigida an international icon. Thanks to Gina and to all those who celebrate her, while waiting to celebrate future Italian successes too. In such a rapidly changing industry there's one anchor: Italian contents, artists and creativity are still at the top."
Tiziana Rocca - the one who proposed the name of Gina Lollobrigida to the Chamber of Commerce in Hollywood and who wished the ceremony to take place within the Filming On Italy event that she directs - thanked all those who made possible "this grand event, that will always stay with me as an unforgettable and moving memory. I wish to thank the Chamber of Commerce once again, the Italian and the American press. A special thank-you goes to Minister Franceschini and President Rutelli for their messages. Another thanks goes especially to General Manager Nicola Borelli who believed in this project and supported me from the very beginning of this magical adventure."
