Luca Guadagnino triumphs at the Writers Guild of America Awards, too: the union of the US scriptwriters bestowed the award for best adapted screenplay on Call Me by Your Name. Based on the novel by André Aciman, the script written by James Ivory beat The Disaster Artist, Logan, Molly's Game, and Mudbound. The same five films will compete in the same category at the Oscars 2018.
One of the year's breakthrough titles, Get Out, wins the WGA Award for best original screenplay, instead.Three of the other four titles beaten by Jordan Peele's horror are the same the film will compete with at the Oscars (The Big Sick, Lady Bird, and The Shape of Water). The fourth title is I, Tonya (while in the run for the Oscar is Three Billboards outiside Ebbing, Missouri).
The award in the documentary category went to Brett Morgen' Jane, recounting Jane Goodall's work with the chimpanzees in the Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania.
