Europa had its world premiere in Cannes at the Quinzaine Des Réalisateurs where it won the Beatrice Sartori International Film Critics’ Award. It was released in Italy by I Wonder Pictures and Unipol Biografilm Collection.

The Hand of God by Paolo Sorrentino is among the nominees for Best Foreign-Language Film at this year’s Golden Globes. The announcement was made in Los Angeles by the Helen Hoehne, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The six nominated films are: Land of the Sons by Claudio Cupellini, A Classic Horror Story by Roberto De Feo and Paolo Strippoli, Caliber 9 by Toni D’Angelo, An Uncertain Border by Isabella Sandri, #stayhome by Roan Johnson, My Body Will Bury You by Giovanni La Pàrola.

The Italian film journalists also crowned 1968 The Braibanti Trial, Punta Sacra and SanPa: Sins of the Saviour as its best documentaries of the year

On September 25th, Sophia Loren will receive the inaugural “Visionary Award” from the new Academy Museum, honoring “an artist or scholar whose extensive body of work has advanced the art of cinema.”

The Golden Globe for Best Original Song went to “Io sì (Seen)” by Laura Pausini, part of the soundtrack of Edoardo Ponti’s The Life Ahead.

The longlist of the prestigious BIFA – British Independent Film Awards has been unveiled and Gianfranco Rosi’s Notturno has been chosen – as the only Italian film – to compete in the category Best International Independent Film.

The foreign press deemed Giorgio Diritti’s movie to be Best Italian Film, also granting it the Best Cinematography Award; Best Director and Best Screenplay went to the D'Innocenzo brothers’ feature

Castellitto received a nomination at the Iris Awards, the Canadian Oscars, in the category Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Mafia Inc.
