During an interview with Vanity Fair about the upcoming release of the restored version of Last Tango in Paris, Oscar-winning director Bernardo Bertolucci speaks of an idea for a new film. As Bertolucci confesses, watching his restored classic made him want to work again.

“For a long time I believed that that very childish joy, that deep pleasure, that feeling of being comfortable only on a film set, was over for good. For the past few weeks instead, there’s been an idea. I’ve read a column on a newspaper and I got curious. Usually I just need a few minutes to understand whether it’s worth continuing or not, and this time, after five years, I sensed it immediately.” In his words, the director anticipates that “the topic of the film will be love, let’s call it like that. In fact, the topic is communication, and thus incommunicability too.”
