A new script for Pupi Avati
Stefano Stefanutto Rosa
Avati is working on a script to be adapted from the novel Lei mi parla ancora [lit. She Still
Talks to Me] by Giuseppe Sgarbi, who passed away last year at 97. The novel
tells of the writer’s lifelong love for his wife Rina. Avati commented: “This
topic is very dear to me, since I have been married for 52 years with a woman
without whom I can’t even imagine my life. She has always known me better than
myself.” Avati confirms he discussed the project with Sgarbi’s two sons, art
critic Vittorio and publisher, writer and director Elisabetta.
The project was selected for the Résidence de la Cinéfondation at Cannes, the Script Station at the Berlinale, the Sundance Mediterranean Lab and TorinoFilmLab
Shooting has started in Bari for Renato De Maria’s new feature Lo spietato [lit. The unforgiving], set between the 1970s and the 199s, and starring Riccardo Scamarcio, Sara Serraiocco, and Marie-Ange Casta.
The new film by the Roman director is an Italian-French co-production and is due to star Marco Giallini, Michela Cescon and Massimiliano Gallo.
Roberto Benigni will be back on the silver screen in the role of Geppetto in Matteo Garrone’s upcoming Pinocchio.
