Despite the pandemic, Made in Italy has
successfully kept on working on the promotion of Italian cinema abroad with all
the traditional initiatives in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Russia that
have been held online. Thanks to the new sanitary conditions, the new season
kicks off physically with Cinema! Italia! the traditional event
organized by Made in Italy in Germany, celebrating its 24th edition
Organized with the contribution of
Ministry of Culture/Cinema Directorate General and of the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and International Cooperation, in collaboration with the Göttingen-based
distribution company Kairos-Filmverleih, the Embassy, the Consulates and the
Italian Institutes of Culture in Germany, the festival starts on September 16th
and will continue until December 15th, 2021.
The initiative in Germany follows
the activities of Made in Italy in Austria with the festival Nuovo Cinema
Italia that took place in July, starting from Vienna and then touring through
other Austrian cities.
The German tournée will stop in over
30 cities, including Hamburg, Munich, Köln, Lubek, Bremen, Bonn, Leipzig,
Dresden, Hannover, Kassel, Stuttgart, Freiburg, Regensburg, Essen, Heidelberg
and Darmstadt, to wrap up in Berlin.
The program includes six recent
Italian films subtitled in German: Everything's Gonna Be Alright by
Francesco Bruni, Parents in Progress by Laura Chiossone, Love Under
House Arrest by Emiliano Corapi, The Predators by Pietro
Castellitto, Rose Stone Star by Marcello Sannino, Hidden Away by
Giorgio Diritti. Cast and crew will introduce the films to the German audience
in some selected screenings.
For a better understanding of the
selected films and Italian cinema in general, the audience is given a catalogue
including film presentations and other critical materials. The festival has
also a competition. For each screening, the audience can vote the film and the
most-voted one will be eventually awarded in Berlin with a distribution deal
for Germany, thanks to a collaboration between Kairos Filmverleih and Made in
Italy, which contributes to the subtitling.
Data on audience appreciation will
be made available to German distributors in order to encourage the acquisition
of the films for Germany. Over 20 films presented throughout the previous
editions of the festival found a German distribution. The most recent ones
include Friends by Chance by Francesco Bruni, Lucia’s Grace by
Gianni Zanasi, The Dog Snatch by Fulvio Risuleo, Rainbow – A Private
Affair by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani.
