Giorgio Diritti’s Hidden Away wins the 24th edition of Cinema! Italia!, the festival organized since 1998 in Germany by the Made in Italy Association with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the support of the Italian Embassy, the Consulates, and the Italian Institutes of Culture along with the German distribution company Kairos-Filmverleih.
Diritti was already a winner of Cinema! Italia! back in 2010 with The Man Who Will Come. Hidden Away was finally crowned as the film registering the best appreciation from the audience who attended the screenings.
The director comments: “When I got to know about the many screenings organized by Made in Italy in Germany, I also thought about the joy of my protagonist, Antonio Ligabue, as if he was driving from one city to another riding on his red Guzzi. I’m very happy to see that Hidden Away received such a big appreciation from the German audience.”
Although the final award ceremony was cancelled due to the anti-Covid measures, the festival has been travelling across 30 German cities. The voting of the audience will be made available for German distributors to assess the interest of the public towards the titles. Besides Hidden Away, the line-up included five other films, all subtitled in German: Love Under House Arrest by Emiliano Corapi, Everything Will Be Fine by Francesco Bruni, Parents in Progress by Laura Chiassone, The Predators by Pietro Castellitto, Rose Stone Star by Marcello Sannino.
